On Saturday, at Wembley Stadium, when Anthony Joshua floored Wladimir Klitschko in the fifth round it looked as if the fight was going to end early.
As Klitschko hit the deck Wembley gave a roar of approval, but the veteran Ukrainian had other ideas.
He clambered to his feet and by the sound of the bell it was Joshua who looked the beaten man.
Round six saw Joshua in further trouble as he too visited the canvas and Wembley took in a deep breath as it looked for all the world that Joshua was going to be stopped.
But somehow, after clambering to his feet, Joshua hung on in there until he could get some respite between rounds.
The following two rounds saw Joshua grab hold and do his utmost to nullify Klitschko?s work.
After the fight was over Klitchko, talking to the media, expressed his disbelief that Joshua hadn?t been beaten, remarking,
?Joshua is very athletic and powerful, with a lot of punching power.
?It was amazing to see the man got up.
?I thought he wasn?t going to get back to his feet but he did.?
Those few rounds proved that Joshua had the testicular fortitude to dig deep and Klitschko had a few words of advice to the younger man, further adding,
?As an amateur Joshua was vulnerable at going down after getting hit and that was the case again.
?I think I could have done more to finish him off right after he went down.
?But I was pretty sure it was going to be my night so I took my time. But he showed how t recover well.
?However, he is vulnerable, this is maybe something he will need to work on.
?He is today a success. He is a unified champion today. You have to respect him for that.?
Fine words from a legend.
