Meanwhile on the Liverpool Echo Arena undercard;

Making his debut at cruiserweight, after losing a world light-heavyweight title fight to Adonis Stevenson, Tony Bellew had a decent start to life at the new weight.

Thirty-one year-old Bellew, fighting in front of his home crowd, stopped the 37 year-old Russian, Valery Brudov, with a 12th round stoppage, thereby winning the vacant WBO title.

Also, on the under-card, Kevin Mitchell eased a step closer to a word title fight when the 29 year-old London fighter stopped his Georgian opponent, Mikheil Avakyan, inside two rounds.

It is now hoped that Mitchell will be taking on the IBF lightweight champion, Miguel Vazquez, on the under-card of the hugely anticipated re-match between Carl Froch and George Groves, at Wembley, on the 31st May.
