In Cardiff last night (Saturday), the unbeaten Welsh prospect Liam Williams defended his Commonwealth and British super-welterweight titles against Gary Corcoran.
In what turned out to be a cracking fight, Williams took the verdict when a huge right hand stopped Corcoran in his tracks in the 11th round.
The fight also saw both fighters pick up cuts above their right eyes but Williams class prevailed and the knockout meant that Corcoran suffered the first loss of his career.
In beating Corcoran, Williams was forced to go past eight rounds for the first time in his career however, it wasn?t a performance that impressed his trainer Gary Lockett who quipped after the fight,
‘That is one of his worst performances. He lets his emotions get to him.’
Something that Williams appeared to agree with, responding,
‘It was one of my worst performances and I knocked him out. I wasn’t even tired.’
However, William?s promoter, Frank Warren is under no illusions as to where the fighter is headed, commenting,
‘This young man has a big future ahead of him.’
After taking his record to 17-0 that is something I?d agree with, how about you?
