On the undercard of the Flanagan v Cruz world title fight, in Cardiff, the unbeaten Welsh fighter Liam Williams faced the Hungarian fighter Gabor Gorbics.

Williams was supposed to be defending his British light-middleweight crown against Ahmet Patterson but Patterson was forced to withdraw after being attacked whilst out on a training run.

Although Gorbics took the fight at short notice, he gave Williams a good fight but without ever looking like pulling off a shock.

Williams was able to pick his punches and control the fight and, understandably, Gorbics started to wilt in the middle rounds.

The end came in round eight when Williams unleashed a left hook to the body that dropped Gorbics to the canvas.

The Hungarian bravely beat the count but the referee stopped the fight preventing Gorbics from taking unnecessary punishment.

Williams has now won all seventeen of his professional bouts and his manager, Frank Warren, believes a world title fight is just around the corner.
