The WBC world heavyweight title clash between Deontay Wilder and Alexander Povetkin hangs in the balance.
The bout, scheduled to take place in Moscow, on May 1st, could be postponed after the challenger, Povetkin, was found to have tested positive for the banned substance meldonium.
However, it appears that Povetkin may have a get out of gaol free card.
The reports suggest that Povetkin had ?low concentrations? of the substance in his blood and that the last time the Russian fighter had taken the drug was back in September.
The substance, meldonium, was only banned by the World Doping Agency in January 2016.
Talking about the situation, Andrei Ryabinsky, head of the fight promoters Mir Boska, is quoted as having remarked,
‘We have been in contact with the World Boxing Council, which is to decide if Povetkin’s boxing bout against Deontay Wilder will take place or not.’
We wait with baited breath.
