It?s not at the moment but it looks as if circumstances are contriving to make it impossible to go ahead.
According to several news sources, Luis Ortiz has failed a drugs test, something that has been confirmed by the World Boxing Council (WBC) president Mauricio Sulaiman.
Commenting on the social network vehicle Twitter, Sulaiman confirmed Ortiz had failed a drugs test but gave no further details.
The promoter, Lou DiBella, talking about the fight, has remarked to the BBC World Service,
‘As of now the fight isn’t cancelled but it’s difficult to see it going ahead,
‘Deontay will be very disappointed with the news. It is one of the biggest fights of his career potentially down the drain.’
If, as DiBella suspects, the Wilder v Ortiz confrontation is called off, it remains to be see whether Wilder?s camp will look for another opponent or walk away.
Reading between the lines though, could this be the ideal chance for Dillian Whyte to step forward and take the place of Ortiz?
Your comments would be most appreciated.
