The heavyweight boxing scene is, as we?ve commented before, currently vibrant.
Tyson Fury in ripping the IBF/WBO/WBA belts off of Wladimir Klitschko, in Dusseldorf, has resulted in the division becoming the division everyone is talking about, even more so with Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte set to go head-to-head this Saturday (12th December).
Hopefully the IBF will see sense and not strip Tyson Fury of the belt for opting to take contractually obligated re-match against Wladimir instead of fighting Vyacheslav Glazkov.
Glazkov, incidentally, was the heavyweight being lined up for the opponent for Deontay Wilder?s next defence of his WBC title in January 2016.
But Glazkov?s change of path and heading down the IBF route has left Wilder looking for a new opponent and somebody who was getting a reputation as a stalker as far as Wladimir Klitschko was concerned could be the opponent.
Shannon Briggs, now 44 years of age, is rated #5 by the WBA and Wilder has intimated that he would be prepared to face off with the man who has a record that reads 59-6-1 with 52 wins coming by knockout.
The venue booked for Wilder?s January defence is the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn New York, will it be Shannon Briggs in the opposite corner to Wilder?
Wilder v Briggs ? Maybe!
