It’s strange how Deontay Wilder has been able to side-step the WBC mandatory challenger for so long yet our own Tyson Fury was forced to relinquish his IBF title pretty damn sharpish.
An American bias perhaps!
However, word is reaching us that Wilder is now looking at finally getting it on with Alexander Povetkin.
A date in May or June is being suggested for a meeting between the champion who has a record of 36-0 with 35 wins coming by the big knockout and the challenger who has a record that reads 30-1 with 22 wins coming by way of knockout.
Once Wilder has gotten past, if he can, the threat presented by Povetkin, the heavyweight division should open up for the American to have some huge fights with the British trio of Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and David Haye being mentioned.
Interesting times ahead!
