In the US last night, the unbeaten American heavyweight, Deontay Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight crown.
Wilder, the first American to hold a version of the title since 2007, when he beat Bermane Stiverne on points last time out, was facing Eric Molina in Birmingham, Alabama.
The WBC champion stopped Molina in the ninth round, to retain his title, in a one-sided fight that saw Molina floored several times.
Molina hit the canvas in the fourth round and was down twice, from concussive punches, in round five.
But the challenger battled on gamely before a huge punch, in the ninth, had him in serious trouble and when Wilder landed several more blows Molina could take no more and fell to the canvas.
The win takes Wilder?s record to 34-0 with 33 of those wins coming inside the distance.
It remains to be seen who is next up for Wilder but surely it won?t be long before the boxing public are clamouring for a unification fight with Vladimir Klitschko who remains unbeaten since 2004 and has a vast array of heavyweight belts strapped around his waist.
