Having defended his WBC heavyweight title successfully last weekend, it is looking as if Deontay Wilder is keeping his promise to make several defences this year.

The suggestion doing the rounds is that Wilder is looking to fight again on September 26th.

The venue has yet to be decided but the rumours suggest that it will be in one of three places, California, Las Vegas or Mississippi.

As for an opponent, two names are being bandied about, those of Tony Thompson and Chris Arreola.

Thompson, who British fight fans will remember as the American who stopped David Price twice, has a record that reads 40-5 with 27 wins coming by way of knockout whilst Arreola has a record that reads 36-4 with 31 wins coming by way of knockout.

Both, it seems are creditable opponents although the mandatory challenger, Alexander Povetkin, might not be too happy he?s being made to wait that bit longer.

As for the outcome if either Thompson or Arreola are the challengers, Wilder might just have to show a little more guile instead of rushing in, arms flailing and with his chin stuck out, otherwise his reign as the WBC heavyweight champion could be over.
