After being side-lined due to arm and hand injuries that required surgery, the reigning WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder was scheduled to make a defence of his title against Andrzej Wawrzyk, at the Legacy Arena, Birmingham, Alabama on 25th February.
Unfortunately Wilder will not be facing Wawrzyk as the fighter failed a recent drugs test, testing positive for the banned substance stanozolol, leaving Wilder?s team frantically scrambling around to try and find a suitable replacement opponent.
One name being touted is that of the #10 WBC contender; Gerald Washington.
Washington is unbeaten as a professional, with a record that reads 18-0-1 with 12 of those wins coming by way of knockout. Washington is, reports suggest, one of three possible names on a list of potential challengers.
Wilder is, of course, also undefeated as a professional with the big punching heavyweight having a record that reads 37-0 with 36 wins coming by way of knockout.
Once anything official is reported, we?ll report back further.
