Over in Brooklyn, New York, last night, Deontay Wilder was making a defence of his WBC heavyweight title.
Wilder, fast becoming the America darling of the heavyweight scene, was up against Artur Szpilka, an American of Polish origin.
The fight saw Wilder register yet another knockout win this time in the ninth round.
Looking, as is his style, for the big knockout punch, Wilder finally despatched his man in the ninth round.
Szpilka was caught with a huge right-hand that rendered him unconscious.
As a precaution, Szpilka was taken to a hospital, in New York, for observation. However it seems that the challenger, who was out cold for several minutes, is doing fine.
Talking about his win, Wilder had this to say,
‘I’m surprised it took that long, but we had 12 rounds and they can’t all can’t be pretty.’
Wilder, after hand=picking several opponents t defend his title against, is now set to make a mandatory defence against the Russian Alexander Povetkin.
