Although Deontay Wilder should be fighting Alexander Povetkin in his next fight, thereby making a mandatory defence of the WBC heavyweight title he holds, there are rumours suggesting that the US fighter may be taking another voluntary defence first.

Although the WBC only allow two voluntary defences between mandatory defences, the fact that Povetkin is fighting on November 4th, against Mariusz Wach, it could be some time before Wilder and Povetkin meet in the ring.

The grapevine is alive with the suggestion that Wilder is set to step into the ring with the former world title challenger Bryant Jennings, a fighter with a record that read 19-1with 10 wins coming by way of knockout.

Jennings is a tough operator and too Wladimir Klitschko the distance in that reference world title fight last April in New York?s Madison Square Garden.

As for a date, January 9th is the favourite.
