Now whether we get to see Amir Khan take on Kell Brook in the first half of 2017 or the second half of the year remains to be seen.

I suppose there?s always the possibility, somewhere down the line, of the fight not happening at all.

Before a date can be decided, both boxers have to decide which route they should take. Khan has suggested he might not face Brook until later in the year, with the Bolton fighter proposing to have just the two fights in 2017.

Brook, on the other hand, has to decide whether he wants to defend his IBF welterweight title against the highly-rated US fighter Errol Spence Jnr who has a record that reads 21-0 with 18 wins coming by way of stoppage.

If Brook does decide to take the Spence fight he risks losing his title whilst fighting for only a fraction of the purse a fight against Khan would generate. But Brook knows that, following hand surgery and on the back of a horrible knockout against Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez, Khan wants a warm-up fight.

So what does Brook do?

Does he take the Spence fight, does he vacate his IBF crown, or does he sit and wait for Khan to take his warm-up fight and fight him later in the summer.

It?s a tricky decision for the IBF welterweight champion to make.
