This Saturday, in Newcastle, Anthony Joshua faces Jason Gavern, but what do we know about Joshua?s opponent?
Gavern is 37 years of age and didn?t start boxing until he was 22 years of age. The fight against Joshua will be the 50th of his career and it will take place on the night of his 19th wedding anniversary.
In his 49 fights so far, Gavern has won 26, drawn 4 and lost 19. He has fought in the UK before when he competed in the Prizefighter series.
Gavern has also sparred with Joshua and talking about his unbeaten opponent had this to say,
‘I am I fighter, but I am also a big boxing fan. I follow the who’s who in the sport so I’ve known about Anthony just from being a fan. The first time that I actually met him and seen him fight was the night of Prizefighter when he fought on the card. I was also here sparring him last year so we know each other from that.’
And on his chances of beating somebody who has a 100% record and who has not gone past three rounds in his professional career, Gavern added,
‘I am confident in my skill, my ability and my experience, but I can’t predict what will happen fight night. This is the heavyweight division. Anything can happen, but all of those things that I possess will definitely come in very handy with a guy like Anthony Joshua.’
That?s true, in this heavyweight division one punch can change everything but I?d be hugely surprised if Gavern was to beat Joshua, wouldn?t you!
