The World Boxing Super Series tournament, for super-middleweights, kicked off last weekend with Callum Smith being the first fighter to reach the semi-finals.
It is a tournament awash with British talent with George Groves, Jamie Cox and Chris Eubank Jnr also taking part.
But, it appears it is a tournament that James DeGale would like to have graced if his shoulder injury hadn?t prevented him from doing so.
If DeGale had of entered the tournament, it could have seen him and George Groves come face-to-face an interesting concept considering Groves is the only professional fighter to have beaten DeGale.
Talking about his great rival, DeGale had this to say to the media,
‘Groves has been saying that after this tournament, if he comes through, he can retire.
‘I think that’s false. It’s a big-money fight and he doesn’t like me. That fight’s always going to be there.
‘I want the winner, and I think the winner is Groves or Smith.’
Now that would be a fight to look forward to.
