In Leeds tonight, the popular Josh Warrington is one fight away from fighting for a version of the world featherweight titles.
Warrington, who has a large and fanatical support takes on the Filipino fighter Dennis Tubieron in a WBC world featherweight eliminator.
The Leeds fighter, who has racked up 20 wins from 20 fights since turning professional, will be fighting in his home town for the first time since he won the European featherweight title, stopping Davide Dieli in four rounds.
If Warrington can beat Tubieron then it is highly likely he will face the current WBC featherweight champion, Gary Russell Junior sometime in the summer.
Whist Warrington has an unblemished record Tubieron has lost three of his twenty-four fights, but Josh knows he is in for a tough night remarking ahead of the bout,
‘I’ve got to be on my game because I am stepping up in level.
‘It’s a massive opportunity for him. Guys that come out of the Philippines are fighting for their lives.’
Indeed Josh will need to be at his best in front of a fanatical support of which he had this to add,
‘The Leeds crowd are very passionate of their own.
‘They just see a lad from the estate who gives it his all and they want to get behind that.
‘I know that if I keep on winning big things are to come for myself and Leeds.’
Will Josh earn his date with destiny?
My thoughts are that he will although it will be a tough fight and one that could swing both ways during the course of the twelve rounds I expect it to go.
Warrington?s Big Chance
