In Leeds last night, Josh Warrington moved closer to a world title fight after claiming the vacant European featherweight title with an emphatic performance.
Warrington, who entered the ring as the reigning British and Commonwealth champion, took on the Italian Davide Dieli.
Fighting in front of a partisan Leeds crowd, the home fighter produced what many feel was the best performance of his career.
From the opening bell, Warrington was all over Dieli and landing the cleaner, sharper punches as he bossed his opponent around the ring.
Picking his man apart, Warrington had Dieli on the floor in the fourth round and although the Italian got to his feet a barrage of punches saw the referee step in to halt the contest.
The ending proved that although Warrington isn?t renowned as a knockout puncher he is improving that part of his game.
The win, his 19th in 19 fights opens up the doors for bigger and better things and you get the impression that whatever path he takes towards world glory, his partisan fans will be backing him all the way providing an atmosphere I?ve rarely heard or seen before.
