On the under-card of the Fury v Chisora show there was an enticing super-featherweight clash between Liam Walsh and Gary Sykes.

With the British and Commonwealth super-featherweight titles at stake, it was to be Liam Walsh that was to be the star of the show.

Walsh took the fight by the following scores on the judge?s score-cards:-

? 118-111
? 118-109
? 119-108

Throughout the fight Walsh produced the classier work and although Sykes proved to be a spirited opponent there was always only going to be one winner once the fight settled into a pattern.

Sykes, naturally disappointed at losing, had this to say in the immediate aftermath of the fight,

‘He was my worst nightmare. I hate southpaws.’

Whilst the victor, Walsh, commented,

‘I thought I performed okay. I felt good.’

Surely Walsh will be pushed towards a European title fight now.
