In an article, some time ago, we covered the success of the Smith family from Liverpool, a family where four fighting brothers have made their mark in the ring.

Well there appears to be another family that also have every right to feel well chuffed.

On the undercard of the promotion at the Hull Ice Arena, Gavin McDonnell was fighting for the British super-bantamweight title against Leigh Wood.

Both fighters had eleven fights under their belts and both fighters, entering the ring, were unbeaten.

However, it was to be Gavin McDonald who was to emerge the victor.

A barrage of punches forced the referee to intervene and the 27 year-old claimed the vacant belt and in doing so followed in the footsteps of his twin brother Jamie McDonnell who also held a British title belt.

Our congratulations go to Gavin on his fine achievement.
