Over the last month or so I?ve championed my desire for the heavyweight division to have an American champion.

It? something the sport has been crying out for and something I expect the American fighter Deontay Wilder to deliver in the next twelve months.

However, somebody who you?d think knows more about the sport than me, the American heavyweight James Toney reckons that our very own Anthony Joshua, in six months? time; will be more than capable of beating the huge-punching Wilder.

Toney, discussing the situation on television, remarked,

?I mean it [that Joshua would beat Deontay]. I watched the film. I?m very impressed with his skills level. To me, his skill level is better than Deontay Wilder. Deontay fights bums. No, I don?t think Deontay Wilder will be a heavyweight champion.?

It?s a bold statement, Wilder has had 30 fights and won the all by knockout, looking awesome in the progress, whilst Joshua is still a novice, despite winning Olympic gold, with just 2 fights and 2 stoppages to his name.

Even if he were to fight once a month for the next six months, I doubt that Joshua would have the experience to take on a fighter that has demolished all in front of him. I reckon Toney, in spouting such nonsense, is just seeking some attention.
