Dillian Whyte is, it would appear, being kept waiting for a shot at a world title.

The Brixton fighter has been nominated as one of the fighters who should contest a heavyweight eliminator, with Luis Ortiz, for a crack at Deontay Wilder’s WBC world heavyweight title.

It is a strange decision by the WBC considering Ortiz recently fought the brash American only to be stopped.

It is even stranger when you consider that the WBC already have a mandatory challenger lined up for Wilder, with that man being Dominic Breazeale, a fighter Anthony Joshua has a KO win over.

Therefore, if Whyte was to take the fight against Ortiz, it could be a wait of in excess of a year before he gets a crack at Wilder, if he gets past the threat of Ortiz.

But Whyte could go down another route, he could take a fight, against Kubrat Pulev, for a crack at the IBF world heavyweight title currently held by Anthony Joshua, a fighter who he lost to, by KO, earlier in his career.

Either way, Whyte looks as if he’s going to be kept waiting for a crack at a world heavyweight crown.

  • Whyte and Wilder, Ortiz vs Kubrat
The two winners get successive shots at Joshua
Wilder first because of his win over
Ortiz. Ortiz due to Pulev’s lost to
    Klitschko….etc etc.
