Following the super-lightweight unification fight, in Glasgow, whereby the Namibian fighter defeated Ricky Burns, in comprehensive fashion, to walk away with the WBA, IBF and IBO belts, both fighters spoke to the media.
Burns, having seen his dream of another unification fight, in Las Vegas, against Terence Crawford ended, had this to say about his opponent, a fighter who showed he was a different, on the night, class,
‘He was so, so awkward. He was a lot better than we thought he was going to be. He can hit as well.
‘I’m going to have all the doubters saying I’m finished – but I’ll come again.
‘He started the rounds fast and the height and reach advantage meant he was out of my distance.’
A fair assessment from Burns.
As for the victor, Julius Indongo had this to say about unifying the three belts,
‘I feel very proud. My home crowd are watching. It’s for the whole of Africa. This is so great.
‘I am very proud for opening my doors and now the world can see me.’
My belief is that Indongo has the ability to give Terence Crawford a decent fight, but would he be prepared to risk all those belts against the American fighter?
