With those memories of last summer fast fading could we, next summer, be seeing George Groves featuring in yet another huge outdoor promotion?
The reason I ask is that, during the week, Eddie Hearn was talking about setting up just such a show with Groves set to take on another old-enemy in the shape of James DeGale.
The du have met twice before in the ring, once in the amateur game and once in the professional ranks, with Groves coming out on top both times.
Both, at the moment, are on the verge of fighting for separate world title and if DeGale can secure the IBF crown and Groves the WBC version of the title then the back end of next summer could see a huge unification fight, or it could even be that the fight will be for a world title, pushing aside current plans, with the winner getting in to the ring with a certain Carl Froch.
Talking about pitching the two pugilists in together, Eddie Hearn had this to say,
‘I am sure we can get DeGale and Groves together for a vacant world title.’
‘DeGale can fight for the IBF title and George Groves can fight for the WBC title in very tough fights for relatively small money so why not fight each other?
‘They are both highly ranked in every governing body and you could say to Carl Froch, take the winner at Wembley at the end of the summer.
‘There is an opportunity to create a huge fight for British boxing.
‘The only thing that will stop it is egos because they can’t stand each other.’
But my feeling is money could well talk in this one!
That Groves, DeGale, Froch Triangle!
