At a mesmerizing press conference!

After becoming the new heavyweight champion of the world, capturing every belt apart from the WBC version held by the brash American Deontay Wilder, the media waited for the latest British hero to arrive for his press-conference.

Held at the Macron Stadium, those in attendance were left waiting as the champion arrived late but once the press conference got under away, Team Fury certainly entertained us.

Addressing those in attendance, it was Tyson who got the press conference started, remarking,

‘I’m stuck for words. What can I say?

‘I’m not surprised or overwhelmed. I always said it and it has come true.’

Given a round of applause, Tyson then continued, adding,

‘That was a masterclass performance over the best fighter on the planet.

‘No-one else had landed any shots on the guy. It just shows you what type of talent you’re messing with.

‘Anyone who wants to try and discredit my performance is just pure jealous’.

Having opened proceedings it was then Tyson?s trainer, Peter who interjected with ,

‘Nobody gave Tyson a chance except his own people. It goes to show how these so-called experts can get it so wrong.

‘Wladimir is a great champion. Tyson was not able to get some of his shots off just like Wladimir couldn’t get some of his shots off.

‘Tyson has learned his craft very well. To beat Wladimir to the jab and to win this fight convincingly. He has made a statement.

‘This is the greatest victory in heavyweight boxing since Ali v Liston.’

I?m not sure about that last statement but what Tyson did in Dusseldorf, on Saturday night, certainly warmed the cockles of my heart.

Continuing, Peter added,

‘We cornered Wladimir Klitschko – we had four world title eliminators, and we defeated him, humiliated him. It was the sweetest moment ever. And believe you me, there’s a lot more to come from Tyson Fury.’

Next to take the microphone was Tyson?s dad, John, who opened with the line,

‘I haven’t really got much more to say’.

Which turned out to be something of an understatement, as John Fury continued with some outlandish comments; starting with,

‘If there is such a thing as the 8th wonder of the world, then you’re looking at it. My son. He had people disbelieving him, people discrediting him.

‘Times do change, people move over to a new beginning. This is a new beginning in boxing. This has never been done before, and will never be done again.’

Returning the microphone to the champ, Tyson further commented about his victory,

?I’m not really interested whatever I have to fight next.

‘I am just focussing on what I have done. It’s not sunk in yet. I’m just waiting for it to come down. I feel like I am floating about and when I come down I will make a decision on who I fight next.

‘I haven’t done something I didn’t believe I could do. I out-boxed him for 12 rounds rather than knocking him out in two and that is better.’

And as for his vanquished foe, Tyson further added,

‘I was expecting him to be stronger. He hit me flush on the nose – I didn’t feel it. He hit me on the temple – I didn’t feel it at the time. I did afterwards, I’ve been taking Neurofen for the pain!

‘Take the glamour and the glitz away from these people, they’re all just bare bums in the shower.

‘I’m still Tyson Fury. I’m still going to go home in an old Land Rover and go to bed.

‘If people don’t like it, change the channel. Don?t take photos. Don’t print it in your newspaper. Do I care? Not really.’

And as for how society views him and the possibility of being a role model, Tyson responded with,

‘It depends what type of role model you’re after. If you’re after a yes man, it’s not me. If you want someone who knows what the world is like, then yes, they can look up to me’

On a roll now, Tyson further added about the whole experience,

‘There were all these little things that Klitschko did that affected other fighters in the past but they didn’t faze me.

‘I have a saying – If God is with me, who can be against me?’

With Tyson pausing for breath it was his father John who interjected again with,

‘Get up and bow to my son, every one of you’.

At which point I wasn?t sure what was going to happen next before some sense of normality returned with John finishing with,

?Can I just say one more thing?

‘Germany treated us so well. Those beautiful people in Germany got behind us, they told us we could do it. They treated us like human beings, treated us with open arms. Thank you Germany.’

And thank you Team Fury for showing us all that boxing is an entertainment sport and making us ecstatic on Saturday evening with what you achieved.

Here at Vital Boxing we can?t wait for the next instalment.
