Last night, in New York, the highly rated female fighter, Katie Taylor, was making her first appearance on American soil as a professional fighter.

Having won her first five professional fights, Taylor was matched with the durable American fighter, Jasmine Clarkson.

Taylor duly turned on the style and stopped her opponent in the third round.

Talking about taking her record to 6-0, Taylor had this to say after the win,

‘There were some nerves.

‘I got caught with a few silly shots but overall it was good.

‘I hope I made some fans – I loved hearing the Irish in the crowd.’

Although classified as durable, Clarkson had no answer to Taylors’ punches and it came as no surprise when her corner called a halt to the fight.

The win for Taylor takes the London 2012 gold medallist closer to a world title fight against the WBA lightweight champion Cacilia Comunales later this year.
