Last night, in the early hours of the morning UK time, Katie Taylor was in action in New York.

Taylor, the WBA world lightweight champion, was taking on the IBF world lightweight champion, Victoria Bustos, in Brooklyn.

Suitably warmed up:

the 31-year-old Irishwoman proceeded to give a masterclass in the art of boxing, controlling the fight and wrenching the IBF belt off Bustos by way of a unanimous points decision with the judge’s scorecards reading:

• 99 – 91
• 98 – 92
• 99 – 91

all in favour of the Irish fighter.

The win extends her record in the professional ranks to 9-0 and after the fight, Katie had this to say to the Sky Sports team covering the promotion,

“I’m thrilled to unify the titles. It’s a dream come true.

“It was a great fight and she was a brave opponent.”

As for her remaining ambitions, Taylor went on to talk about unify the division before the end of the year:

Well done Katie from all at Vital Boxing, the sky really is the limit.
