After losing his WBC heavyweight title to the American big-punching heavyweight Deontay Wilder, Bermane Stiverne returned to the ring last night.

Stiverne, fighting at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, was taking on the journeyman fighter Derric Rossy.

However, if Stiverne was expecting a relatively easy night to get his career back on track, he was in for a shock.

Although Stiverne took the ten round fight by a unanimous decision, with the point scores being as thus:-

? 96-93
? 96-96
? 95-94

the former champion had to climb off of the canvas in the first round after being floored by a punch from Rossy.

In fact the former WBC champion looked out of shape for this contest and a little ring rusty after being out of the ring for ten months, weighing in fifteen pounds heavier than he did for the Wilder fight.

Where Stiverne goes from here remains to be seen, although as a former heavyweight title holder there is the possibility, somewhere down the line, he?ll get another title shot. But on the evidence of last night his chances of becoming a heavyweight title holder look slim.
