At the USC Galen Centre, Los Angeles, California last night, a new WBC heavyweight champion was crowned.

The top two WBC contenders went head-to-head with the #1 contender Bermane Stiverne taking on the #2 contender Chris Arreola.

In a cracking fight it was to be Stiverne who emerged the victor destroying Arreola in six pulsating rounds.

The fight was to come to a dramatic conclusion in round six when Stiverne floored Arreola twice. Prior to those knockdowns it had been a pretty even contest but a huge right hand, thrown by Stiverne, caught Arreola on the side of his head and down he went.

To his credit, Arreola somehow got to his feet to carry on but a flurry of punches, from Stiverne, had him in big trouble and as he slid down the ropes the end was night with the referee, Jack Reiss, stepping in to rescue a defenceless Arreola.
