Reading the Barry Hearne column in The Sun this morning I have to say I disagree with one point he has to say.

Barry seems content to give Carl Froch a slap on the back for relinquishing his IBF world super-middleweight championship belt rather than seek an extension to any mandatory defence due to his elbow injury.

However with that mandatory challenger being James DeGale, I?m not accepting the guff relating to the belt being relinquished to give DeGale the chance to fight for the world title sooner rather than later.

Especially so when Froch has already admitted that he has no inclination to fight DeGale and that if it were not for the fact he?d picked up an elbow injury then he?d still be chasing a Las Vegas date with Julio Cesar Chavez.

Which all begs me to ask the question, how long were they going to keep DeGale waiting if the elbow injury hadn?t have come along?
