Having recently won the WBO light-middleweight crown, speculation is rife that Liam Smith could be set to make his first defence as early as 19th December.

With a promotion being set up for that date that already features Andy Lee v Billy Joe Saunders in an eagerly awaited contest, as well as featuring another world champion in Terry Flanagan and an ex-champ in Paul Butler, the indications are that Smith could be meeting the legend that is Sugar Shane Mosley.

Now 44 years of age, Mosley who has a record that reads 48-9-1 with 40of those wins coming by knockout, is aiming to become the third oldest man in boxing history to win a world title, following Bernard Hopkins (48) and George Foreman (45).

Whether at the age of 44 he still has the ability to beat the emerging Smith remains to be seen, but, nevertheless, what a superb addition to a first-class card Sugar Shane Mosley v Liam Smith would make.
