This Saturday, in the exquisite location of Monte Carlo, Stephen Smith will be making a second attempt at winning a version of the super-featherweight title.
Back in April, when challenging for the IBF version, Smith lost to Jose Pedraza.
On Saturday night, Smith will be going for the WBA version of the world title, when he takes on the hard-punching American Jason Sosa.
Sosa claimed the WBA belt when he got up off the canvas to beat Javier Fortuna, in April, with an 11th round stoppage.
Smith, now 31-years-old, knows that he faces a difficult fight on Saturday but he appears ready for the challenge ahead, remarking to the media about the forthcoming fight,
‘If I land flush on him I can really hurt him.
‘I hit as hard as anyone in the division. But I have to use my ability and skill first and foremost, make him miss and make him look stupid at times.
‘This is chalk and cheese to the Pedraza fight. Jose is a tall, distance fighter who moves a lot and relies on his skills, so it was always going to be a cagey fight.
‘Sosa is short, strong and known as a big puncher, so I have got to force him into mistakes and use my skills to get him onto my shots.’
If Smith is to be triumphant then he has to box Sosa, if he tries to stand and trade then a second attempt at winning a world title could be ended by one punch from Sosa.
It should be an interesting fight though.
