Over in Germany last night, Paul Smith was hoping to win the WBA super-middleweight world title.
After losing two world title fights to Arthur Abraham, who is, incidentally, Chris Eubank Jnr?s next opponent, Smith was hoping it would be third time lucky against the German fighter, Tyron Zeuge.
Unfortunately, it wasn?t to be for 34-year-old Smith who was soundly beaten by his younger opponent.
The fight went the full twelve rounds with all three judges awarding the fight to 25-year-old Zuege.
The young German was far busier than Smith, constantly out-working the Liverpool man.
Matters weren?t helped when Smith, throwing some outlandish swinging punches in the last two rounds was given a standing count when he clearly fell over.
Although, in hindsight, the scorecards, all of which read 119 ? 108 were probably spot-on.
For Zuege there is the chance to make a name for himself in this division, for Smith could retirement be a beckoning decision?
