In Birmingham last night, the British and Commonwealth welterweight title belts changed hands.
The defending champion Sam Eggington was making a defence against Bradley Skeete.
The challenger was to put in the best performance of his career to take the verdict on all three of the judge?s scorecards, with the point scores being announced as:-
? 115 ? 113
? 116 ? 113
? 117 ? 112
It was hard to disagree with the score-cards with Skeete producing the slicker work and better punches. Eggington had trouble landing his own punches with Skeete?s defensive skills allowing him to slip punches almost at will.
Sensing that his titles were slipping away, Eggington tried to up his game in the latter rounds but the gap was too much to claw back.
The win lifts Skeete?s record to 23-1 with 10 wins coming by way of knockout whilst Eggington?s slips to 17-3 with 9 wins coming by way of knockout.
