Tonight, at the MGM Grand Arena, in Las Vegas, Lee Selby should have been appearing on the undercard of the bill headliner between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz.
Selby would have been making a defence of his IBF featherweight crown against Jonathan Victor Barras.
The fight would have been a prelude to a unification fight against the winner of Frampton v Santa Cruz, with Selby hoping he?d get the chance to take on the Irishman in Cardiff.
However, the fight tonight, much to the disappointment of Selby, will not be taking place.
The Nevada Fight Commission refused to grant Barras a licence to fight, meaning that all Selby?s preparations have been in vain.
Talking about the huge disappointment, Selby has remarked to the media,
‘This was my big stage, my chance to shine.
‘But trust me, I will be back. I will come again.
“Hopefully I can get straight back in the mix, get a quick win under my belt.
“Then I would like to challenge the winner of Frampton-Santa Cruz.”
I guess that?s the name of the game, sometimes, unfortunately.
