This Saturday evening, at the SSE Wembley Arena, Lee Selby will be making a defence of his IBF featherweight title.

However, it will be a defence tinged with sadness after his mother, Frankie, passed away on Tuesday.

Selby is showing immense courage in going through with the fight after such a personal loss.

Talking about his charge deciding to box on rather than opt out and wait for another date, Jamie Sanigar is quoted as having remarked,

?It?s very sad new, Lee is a brave young man.?

He is and here at Vital Boxing we salute him.

Selby?s opponent on Saturday night will be the Argentine fighter Jonathan Victor Barros. The two should have met before, in Las Vegas, on the undercard of the re-match between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz but, for some reason, Barros was refused a licence to fight by the Nevada authorities.

Hopefully Lee Selby will retain the IBF featherweight belt he won back in May 2015 whilst also receiving the marvellous reception his deed deserves.

RIP Frankie
