Tonight the Welsh IBF featherweight champion, Lee Selby, will be fighting on the under-card of the Haye v Bellew promotion at the 02 Arena, in London.

The fight will be the boxers last under the Matchroom Boxing banner with Selby having concluded his contract with Eddie Hearn?s organisation and opting to become a free-agent.

But becoming a free-agent doesn?t seem to be the risk it might seem when your advisor is Al Haymon.

Selby hasn?t had the best of times recently, it is eleven months since he last fought, beating Eric Hunter.

Selby was supposed to fight on the under-card of the recent Santa Cruz v Frampton fight in Las Vegas but his opponent didn?t fulfil the Nevada State licensing regulations and the bout was cancelled.

Tonight Selby faces, in a non-title fight, Adoni Gago and talking about finishing with Matchroom Boxing he?s remarked,

‘This is my last fight with Matchroom, after this I am a free agent.

‘I will have a contract with no-one.

‘My advisor and my manager will be free to put me on shows anywhere in the world.

‘Hopefully that will mean I fight in America more and in my home country.’

And as for possible opponents, Selby added,

‘I want to be in the ring with all three of Carl Frampton, Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares, in any order, either defending my title or in unification fights.?

If Selby gets his wish we could be in for an entertaining time.
