At the O2 Arena the Welsh fighter Lee Selby seized the chance to fight for the IBF featherweight crown with a ninth round win over the Australian fighter Joel Brunker.

Brunker arrived in the ring unbeaten in 27 fights but he?d been inactive for a year. Whilst, on paper, it looked to be a good match-up, in reality Selby was the far superior fighter.

The fighter from Barry, South Wales, controlled the fight from the start until the ninth round stoppage, controlling the fight with some crisp punching, smart footwork and having a bit more of the devil about him.

Although the Australian was game, the stoppage was done at the right time with the referee, Marcus McDonnell stepping in to halt proceedings after two minutes and forty nine seconds of the ninth round.

The win makes Selby the mandatory challenger for the IBF belt currently held by the Russian Evgeny Gradovich.

After his win against Brunker, Selby had this to say,

?That was the most important win of my career so far because so much was at stake.?

Our congratulations go to Lee on his fine win but Gradovich will, we feel, present a far tougher test.
