Today it has been announced that the Bury fighter, Scott Quigg, has split with his former trainer Joe Gallagher and teamed up with the legendary Freddie Roach.
After losing his world title fight, against Carl Frampton, Quigg has opted to move up to featherweight as he seeks to become a two-weight champion.
In deciding to opt for the same trainer that Manny Pacquiao uses, Quigg will be upping sticks and moving to Los Angeles to train at the Wild Card Gym.
Talking about his decision the 28-year-old has remarked,
‘I have moved up to featherweight with the goal of becoming a two-weight world champion. I need a fresh challenge to help me grow.
‘This is an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.’
But it appears that the split with Joe Gallagher is amicable with Quigg further adding,
‘We have been a great team and achieved a lot and had some great wins together.
‘I’d like to thank Joe for everything he has done for me; he is a tremendous coach and friend, which we will remain.
‘Our first fight together was for the British title and I went on to become world champion under his guidance and for that I will be forever grateful.’
It?ll be interesting to see how Quigg fares under the tutorship of one of the great trainers of the modern era.
