Recently, there has been a lot of talk relating to a possible match-up between Billy Joe Saunders and Gennady Golovkin.
Before both signed for their next fights, there was the suggestion that Saunders would fight Golovkin if the money offered to him was substantial enough.
Now here at Vital Boxing we?re not privy as to whether a fee was offered to Saunders.
However, the Hatfield fighter is once again making noises about fighting his fellow world title holder. Saunders, the current WBO middleweight champion, is eyeing up a huge summer showdown at Wembley Stadium with the current IBF / IBO / WBA middleweight champion.
Now whilst on paper it seems a good idea, with a sell-out Wembley Stadium crowd of 80,000 generating a huge revenue stream, you have to ask whether there would be significant interest from the British public to see the bout.
Would Saunders, with a record that reads 23-0 with 12 wins coming by way of knockout, be able to persuade the public to see him take on Gennady who has a record that currently reads 34-0 with 31 wins coming by knockout?
To me, the plan seems too ambitious, perhaps a Premier League football ground would be a better idea, although that would lessen the revenue raised.
There?s also the prospect to consider of whether Saunders would be out of his depth against a fighter who nobody has troubled or seriously tested yet.
It?s an interesting theory, or suggestion, to ponder over though.
