Having become the WBO middleweight champion of the world after taking the crown off of Andy Lee, Billy Joe Saunders has re-iterated his desire to start getting involved with the big boys of the division.
Although Saunders has admitted that it would take a huge amount of money to see him share a ring with Gennady Golovkin, it seems that the Hatfield fighter is looking towards a testing bout with Cotto.
Talking to the media after the bout with Lee, at the Manchester Arena, Saunders has remarked,
?I want Cotto, Canelo. I?d love them fights. I want to move up.
?Cotto?s style suits me. It?s a fight I?ve always dreamed of.
?I?d take that fight next, definitely. If I could have two weeks off I?d get back into camp and go for that fight.
?I?ve always loved watching Cotto and it would be a dream to box him. To go to America and do it would be an even bigger dream.
?But I know what I?m up against to retain this world title against the division?s other champions.
?I?ve arrived and have to stay on form to compete at this level.?
After becoming the WBO champion, it?s a tough road ahead for Saunders and Cotto may well be interested seeing as there is a world title belt a stake.
It remains to be seen whether Frank Warren can get the match made.
But who would your money be on?
