It has been announced that the WBO middleweight champion, Billy Joe Saunders, will be defending his title against a former world title holder, David Lemieux.

The fight is scheduled to take place on December 16 and will take place in Montreal, Canada.

For Saunders it will be the first time he has fought overseas.

His opponent has a record that reads 38 wins from 41 fights and is regarded as something of a puncher having stopped 33 of his opponents.

Saunders is unbeaten as a professional having won all 25 of his fights.

Naturally, both fighters have had something to say about the bout with Saunders, who holds the only middleweight belt Gennady Golovkin has not claimed, remarking,

‘Once I beat Lemieux I’ll move onto bigger fish; the winner of the rematch between Saul Alvarez and Golovkin.?

Serious intent indeed.

As for Lemieux, he had this to say,

‘It’s time to be world champion again.

‘Saunders is about to get destroyed.’

This has all the makings of a great fight, stick the date in diary!
