Topping the bill at the Manchester Arena last night, after the late cancellation of the main event, Billy Joe Saunders produced the goods.
Taking on the unbeaten Italian fighter, Emanuele Blandamura, Saunders might not have been at his dazzling best but he still became the first fighter to stop the previously unbeaten Blandamura.
Saunders stopped his man in round eight with a devastating right-handed body punch that saw the Italian rendered helpless and on the end of a standing count from the referee and then decreed as being in no fit state to carry on.
Twenty-four year-old Saunders is now at the stage of his career whereby he can be considered as a genuine world title contender with a challenge for the WBO middleweight title against the current champion, Peter Quillen, mentioned.
However, you get the feeling that there might be unsettled business, on the domestic front, to take care of first with a grudge fight against Chris Eubank Junior coming his way.
