Although the word on the street is that Gennady Golovkin could be making a return to these shores to take on Billy Joe Saunders in a middleweight unification bout, the WBO champion has a Plan B to revert to it Golovkin decides to fight someone else.
Saunders, 28-years-old and unbeaten, wants a fight against his fellow Brit, Amir Khan.
Khan was last in action back in May 2016 when, in his first fight as a middleweight, be was knocked out cold by Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez.
The Bolton fighter has a record that reads 35 fights with 31 wins, a respectable record.
However, following his defeat at the hands of the Mexican, Canelo, Khan has stated previously that he wants to revert back to welterweight.
Talking about his plans, Saunders has remarked to the media,
‘I’m planning to fight in the first week in December and I would love to be in the opposite corner to Amir Khan.
‘It would be a great showdown, a great fight for the fans, but I’m willing to fight any big name as long as I fight in December.
“I’m on a roll now, I want to keep it going, and the hard work continues. I’m back in the gym next week and I’m ready to rock ‘n’ roll.
“Amir Khan is a good fighter. He’s been in America, and I think he owes the British public a fight in England, so I’m willing to sit round the table, sort a deal out and put it on.”
It would seem that having been inactive for so long the WBO middleweight champion now wants to be more active.
