On the undercard at the Copper Box Arena, Stratford, last night, Billy Joe Saunders made history.

The unbeaten Saunders clashed with the also unbeaten John Ryder with Saunders British middleweight title at stake.

In an entertaining contest, in which both fighters had their moments, the 24 year-old Saunders took the verdict on all three judge?s scorecards with the verdicts being 115-113, 115-113 and 115-114.

In securing the verdict, Billy Joe Saunders becomes the first traveller to hold a Lonsdale Belt outright and looks destined for bigger and better things, starting with the European title.
