Sometimes I really wonder about this wonderful sport of ours.
Every so often a fight gets announced that instantly makes your eyes go wide open, but then you hear news of a fight being announced that has you sighing in disbelief.
Now I understand that when fighters win a world title they feel it is okay to make an easy defence but when a fighter has made mutterings about being willing to take on a ring legend if the money is good enough but then sidling away, it leaves me confused.
Okay, perhaps many would be wary of facing Genady Golovkin but if you have supreme confidence in your ability and the money is right why not chance your arm at making history?
Instead we find that Billy Joe Saunders has chosen to take a defence that will see him, on 30th April, take on the Ukrainian fighter Max Bursak at the Copper Box Arena in London.
After outpointing Andy Lee, back in December last year, in Manchester, I have to say that Saunders first defence of his WBO world middleweight title leaves me unimpressed and, as I said earlier, sighing in disbelief.
Does anyone else feel the same?
