I love the sport of Boxing but, sometimes, I get the feeling it does itself no favours.

After the enthralling first encounter between Gennady Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, the boxing public were eagerly awaiting the second fight between two giants of the sport.

However, the fight is now not going to happen, in the immediate future, after Alvarez failed two drugs tests which tested positive for clenbuterol.

Such a misdemeanour has resulted in Alvarez being banned for six months, in our opinion a punishment that doesn’t fit the crime.

More worryingly, the ban has been back-dated to the date he failed the drugs test meaning the Mexican is free to fight again from 17 August.

The failed drugs test, according to the Mexican and his camp, were down to contaminated meat being eaten.

Now that may or may not be the case, but I’m probably not the only person who feels that Alvarez’s career is no tainted and questions could be asked about his record which reads 52 fights, 48 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat.

Sadly, I’ll not be able to watch Alvarez with the same enthusiasm I normally would, how about you?
