Most punters were of the opinion that if there were to be a big unification match in the super bantamweight division it would be between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg.

But with Quigg side-lined through injury another possible big unification fight could be in the pipe-line.

The current WBC super-bantamweight champion, Leo Santa Cruz, is targeting a fight against Frampton.

Santa Cruz, if he gets past the challenge presented by Jesus Ruiz, this Saturday in Vegas, wants to meet Frampton if the Irishman can get past his mandatory defence against Chris Avolas in Belfast at the end of February.

Talking about such a bout, Santa Cruz has told the media,

?Yeah, I think so, I want to fight him.

?I?ve been wanting to fight him since a while ago. He has the IBF now so I think a unification could come right there.

?Right now, I think he?s got a mandatory against Avalos, so hopefully after that one ? if I?m available ? I would like to unify against him.?

More importantly, it also appears that, unlike Quigg, Santa Cruz wouldn?t be averse to fighting in Belfast with the WBC title holder further adding about fighting away from home,

?I would like to fight over there because they say it?s really nice. I?m willing to go and I?d like to go to different places to fight.?

The future, in the super-bantamweight division, has never looked brighter.
