Last weekend, whilst Josh Warrington claimed the vacant European title on the promotion in Leeds, the light-welterweight Commonwealth title changed hands

In a contest that reminded me of the old days, times when fights were of a brutal nature, Dave Ryan took a points decision over Tyrone Nurse.

For Ryan the opportunity is now there to gather other belts with a Lonsdale belt fight firmly in his sights.

Talking about becoming a champion whilst also giving an indication as to where his ambitions lie, Ryan has remarked to the media,

‘It’s been a long time coming but all the sweat and tears have paid off.?

‘Hopefully it will be a British title shot next. But defending a Commonwealth title would still be brilliant.’

And confirming that the fight with Nurse was a brutal affair, Ryan commented,

‘I spent two days in hospital and broke my nose and cheekbone.?

‘It was not the way I wanted to celebrate but I still have the belt.?

‘Hopefully I will be on the mend in the next couple of weeks and get back in the gym.?

As for the future, as well as a British title fight, Ryan harbours an ambition, as a Derby County supporter, to fight at the clubs ground, could that be a possible venue for a future fight, a fight where, just perhaps, something far more admirable than a British title belt could be at stake?

Although Ryan is now 31 years of age, you just never know do you!
