On the 02 Arena undercard last week, Dave Ryan retained his Commonwealth light-welterweight title.

Matched against John Wayne Hibbert, the two boxers produced a thrilling encounter that saw Ryan on the canvas twice but still coming back to stop his opponent in the ninth round.

Following the win, Ryan has climbed to 12th in the WBC rankings and has set himself a target of fighting for the world title down the line.

At 32-years of age, Ryan should be in his prime and his manager, Clifton Mitchell, is ready to push for that world title bout, remarking to the local media.

‘Who says he can’t box for a world title? It’s in our sights.

‘He’s got the ability and belief. It opens a lot of doors for him.’

And with regards to his #12 ranking, Ryan commented,

‘It’s massive, 12th in the world.

‘We’ve put a lot of hard work into it all as a team both outside and inside the ring.’

So it?s onwards and upwards as they say.
